SSG JOSEPH MICHAEL HENDERSON

Joseph M. Henderson, age 73, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

Joe served his country proudly as a Vietnam Veteran with the U.S. Army. After serving in Vietnam, Joe went to work as a Steamfitter. He was a member of the Steamfitters Local Union 420 for 50 years and continued as a past President of the Steamfitters Local Union 420 Retirees Association. Joe remained active in military organizations following his Honorable Discharge from the Army. He was a Past President of the 35th Infantry Regiment Association and the Secretary of the Vietnam Veterans Of America Chapter 590. Joe was able to travel, with his wife, to more than 40 states while attending the 35th Infantry Regiment Association and "A" Company reunions.

When he wasn't traveling to the reunions, Joe and Martha enjoyed trips to Europe. Closer to home, Joe was always planning bus trips to local destinations. He was also a longtime member of AOH Division #1 Bristol. An avid sports fan, Joe's favorite teams were the Phillies, Eagles, and Notre Dame. Although he liked all sports, baseball was his passion and he always knew the box scores and stats. He was a youth coach for St. Joseph the Worker CYO and Levittown Continental Little League. Always up for a challenge, Joe enjoyed playing Trivia and could oftentimes be found poolside with a Miller Light and a crossword puzzle.

Cherished husband of Martha C. (nee Hall); Beloved father of Joann, Jeni, Colin (Holly) and stepfather of Robert Brodsky, Jr.; adoring grandfather of Amy, Dylan, Jude, Alfie, and Fallon; devoted great-grandfather of Lacey, Ava, Fraser, Teddy, and Layla; loving son of Joseph and the late Margaret "Peg" Henderson; dear brother of Margaret (the late Jimmy) Mullarkey, John (Elaine) Henderson, and Thomas (Geri) Henderson; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

TRIBUTE TO SSG JOE HENDERSON

Joe was a member of the Tactical Operations Center (TOC) while serving with the 2/9th FA.  The TOC consisted of soldiers from both the 35th Inf Regt and the 2/9th FA overseeing the operations of the troops in the field.  Joe became such close friends with his comrades in the TOC that he joined and became a long-time member of their 35th Inf Regt Association after Vietnam, serving as Sales Manager of their Parallel PX and eventually became the President of the 35th Inf Regt Assn.

Joe was extremely gregarious and made friends easily.  His wife Martha was a faithful companion in all his duties and travels.

He will be greatly missed.
