WE FIRED HIGH ANGLE AT CHARGE 7
I
would like to add to the history of "Operation Green Lightning".
I was XO of A/2/9 on LZ Tommie. Things I remember are, most of the rounds
fired were High Angle charge 7, so we
were dropping the rounds almost
straight down. All of it in close support. The FO on Chu Pa was
walking rounds to within 50 feet of their position. I'm
not sure how many rounds we fired, but we only had 5 working tubes and a couple
of them started cooking off. During the peak of our firing, we were
visited by some Brass (I think Gen. Williams). He and his group spent a couple
of hours humping ammo up the hill from the LZ. The attached link gives
the view from the side of the mountain.
